Evolving the Funder Role
Ready to join the fun? We’re shaping the future of donor involvement and would love for you to join us as we diversify our donor pool and explore exciting ideas together. Our guiding values shape a distinctive role for donors within our Fund, as does the inspiring work arising in the field of participatory grantmaking.
Our vision for donor involvement is purposeful but evolving, and we’re keen to tap into your insights to define that role. We’re in the early stages of building the diverse donor pool necessary for this dialogue to thrive. Promising ideas have already emerged through conversations among our stakeholders, such as:
- Raising Awareness
Supporting food policy councils by sharing and magnifying their impactful work. - Fostering Alignment
Facilitating collaborative efforts among funders to create stability in funding food policy initiatives across various scales. - Sharing Wisdom
Documenting and spreading insights from our collaborative participatory model, benefiting all involved. - Nurturing Growth
Partnering with grant applicants not selected, providing constructive feedback and encouragement, or guiding them to other avenues of support.
While the exact direction of our donor collaboration is yet to be defined, one thing is certain: the collective potential is boundless. Your aspirations will help us shape that shared path.
One unique aspect of our participatory Fund is that allocation decisions are not the responsibility of the donors but rather an Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) made up of people who are closer to the work on the ground. Donors work alongside the IAC in different ways, all of us trying to find ways to further support and lift up the work of food policy councils. Each individual has a pivotal role to play in this multi-faceted team effort – and we look forward to hearing your ideas on how you want to get involved!
