The Better Food Policy Fund supported an inaugural cohort of 10 food policy councils in 2024-2025. Each council was provided $60,000 in unrestricted funding over two years to advance their work. The Independent Advisory Committee of the Fund utilized a participatory process to select these 10 grantees using trust-based nomination and lottery processes.
Selection was guided by a matrix that tracked diversity across various dimensions to ensure a mix of grantees that reflect the diversity of food policy councils across the US. We took special care to include councils that are under-resourced, remote or rural, and/or BIPOC-led without precluding councils that do not share one of these attributes.
We have loved getting to know these council members, and we think you will too!
